Suburban Addition | South San Francisco, CA

This project takes advantage of the need to add a second floor addition, introducing clerestory windows and vaulted spaces that link the addition with the lower level. The existing ranch style home was low and dark, and situated at the low end of a cul-de-sac. The vertical extension of the house is seen as a horizontal "bar" that admits daylight and shared interior/exterior experiences. At the rear a courtyard is carved into the bar creating a private deck flanked by floor to ceiling glazing that separates a dance studio from the master bedroom suite.
